Surviving Christmas… The Raw Horizons Way

Ho ho ho Christmas is here!

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, but it can also be the most overwhelming time of the year. The festivities of late December can get pretty crazy and if you don’t take care of yourself and prioritise you, then your wellbeing can really take a hit. Not ideal when there are parties to be attended and catch ups to be had.

Well never fear, we are here to help you survive and thrive this Christmas with your very own Raw Horizons survival checklist. Follow these simple pointers to make sure you feel tip top well into the New Year…

  1. Stay hydrated! And no, mulled wine and prosecco don’t count! Make sure you’re drinking lots of water to keep your body performing as it should.
  2. Eat your veggies. Pile your plate high with yummy greens to make sure you’re getting plenty of vitamins and minerals and keeping yourself energised.
  3. Keep moving… As tempting as it might be to stay on your sofa drinking Baileys and watching movies, getting outside and moving your body will give you a new lease of life. Even if it’s just a few brisk walks, keep things moving.
  4. Give yourself some time out. Seeing friends and family is wonderful but remember to schedule in some quiet time for yourself too. Your can’t pour from an empty cup after all..
  5. Practice gratitude. Be thankful for your many blessings this Christmas. Appreciate the little things and give love to your friends and family. Savour the precious time spent with them and hold them close.
  6. Don’t overeat! We seem to feel obliged to stuff our faces at this time of year. Food is everywhere! However, ask yourself if you honestly need that extra bar of chocolate or mince pie, or is it going to make you feel a bit rubbish?
  7. Eradicate guilt… On the subject of food, do also remember that you don’t need to feel guilt about the things that you do eat. Guilt has no place at the dinner table so don’t go feeling bad if you do over-do it a bit.
  8. Yoga! Don’t neglect your practice, however easy it is to do so at this time of year, try to keep up some sort of routine even if it’s just 10 minutes a day. Your head will be clearer and it will be much easier to get back to it in January!
  9. Breathe, or even better, meditate. Remember your breathing – breath is everything. If you’re feeling stressed, tired or a bit overwhelmed, then just come back to your breathing. Long, deep, slow breaths are the easiest way to centre yourself quickly when you’re feeling a bit fried.
  10. SMILE! Our favourite thing to check off our checklist! Keep smiling. Be happy, enjoy the madness of the festivities, embrace everyone, laugh, be silly and keep grinning like a crazy person. It’s Christmas!

So to all our lovely friends, we wish you a beautiful and very merry Christmas, a happy New Year and one that is filled with smiles and laughter.

We’ll see you on the other side xo
